2018 SD UBRA Horse of the Year Nominee: Be Assured Im Famous

2018 SOUTH DAKOTA UBRA Horse of the Year Nominee:

Be Assured Im Famous – owned by UBRA member Ashley Worth

Be Assured Im Famous aka Dodger, is a 2010 gelding by Roosters Fame out of my high school/college mare Hanks Pleasure Gal. His LTE is around $15,000. Dodger is the first colt I raised to make it to the arena. As a weanling, he was kicked and broke his elbow. He had two surgeries to fix it and currently has a large and permanent metal plate with six screws.

Dodger was my first futurity colt so we learned to navigate that world together. We clicked at the right time and placed 6th in the first round of the 5-State Breeders Futurity, right behind Tami Semas on Smooth N Famous. After that, there was no stopping the little guy. Dodger and I were the 2015 5-State Breeders Futurity Amateur Champion. We went on to place in rounds and averages at several futurities as well as placing in the Open 1Ds. We ended the year as the Roper Rally Futurity PESI Champ as well as the reserve year-end 2015 Tri-fecta Amateur Champs. In his derby years, he went on to place in several derbies, the average at the SD NBHA Finals, slot races, and the top 10 at several large shows with over 300 entries.

In the first round of the 2017 UBRA World, I severely herniated a disc that would require surgery. I stubbornly refused to forfeit our second round even though I couldn’t walk or sit upright. My sister warmed Dodger up and led us into the arena. He kept me safe while I just hung on and pulled us a check. While I was recovering from back surgery, I handed Dodger’s reins over to my sister Calley. In 4 runs together, they won $5,000.

In 2018, he was the horse I trusted to keep me safe while I made my comeback. He placed in the 1D and 2D with little to no help from me. At the Bonus Race Finals in June, he placed in the top 30 fast times out of 1,100+ entries.

Our 2018 season was cut short when Dodger contracted a very serious infection that nearly killed him. We have been working daily since August to make our comeback in 2019.

Dodger has the heart of a champion and is a fighter. He gives his all every run and would run on 3 legs if I asked him. He’s a gritty horse that is all business when the time comes but is a big playful goof outside the arena.

Dodger is my heart horse. I’ve always known he was special but to have others recognize that in him as well, truly brings tears to my eyes. Thank you to whoever nominated my special boy, especially after the difficult year we’ve had together. Here’s to 2019 and more comebacks!
