2018 Combined Region Horse of the Year Nominee: Gold Dashing Henry

2018 Combined Region Horse of the Year Nominee: Gold Dashing Henry

Owned by Jordan Vickery

I am so honored that Gold Dashing Henry was nominated for UBRA Horse of the Year!  He is my heart horse and deserves this honor!  Our time together has been quite a journey. When I first got Henry, less than 3 years ago, he was crazy!  He needed wet saddle pads and lots of blood, sweat and tears. He pulled back almost every time he was tied. He wouldn’t stand still and you couldn’t really do much on the ground with him. My mom was so nervous for me to ride him for the first time.  Turns out he was really a grandpa under saddle and didn’t really care about anything when I was riding him. Eventually he started to like to go a little to much though and we had to work through that.  We’ve been through just about everything there is to go through together. He’s a special horse who truly loves his job. He is the first horse that I’ve trained on the barrels myself and our road hasn’t been easy but I wouldn’t change a thing. He’s been one of the best but most challenging horses I’ve worked with. He’s made me a better rider and more humble person. He’s taken me places I never dreamed I could go. He started off 2018 running the best he ever has and he won his first 1D champion buckle and placed at the first rodeo he ran in and then he got hurt and had to sit out the second half of the year but still managed to place in the open 1D and the youth in UBRA shocking me.  He’s an amazing horse and I feel he truly deserves this.    Jordan Vickery
